AJ HERNANDEZ GRABS FIRST CAREER WMR WIN IN VENTURA

Ventura, Calif. (August 27, 2022) – Phoenix’s AJ Hernandez won his first career Western Midget Racing presented by Masters Design and Construction feature on Saturday night in a 20-lap contest at Ventura Raceway. Las Vegas’ Kyle Hawse and Fresno’s TJ Smith won the heat races to set up for the feature. Hernandez started on the pole alongside Delano’s Terry Nichols. Hernandez drove immediately into the lead with third starting Smith in pursuit. Both Smith and Nichols retired from the race on lap seven, however. Stockton’s Caden Sarale went into a back-and-forth battle with Concord’s Adam Teves for second but Sarale held the position.

Todd Hawse of Moorpark spun in turn three to erase Hernandez’ advantage over the field. Sarale showed Hernandez his nose exiting turn two on the restart but Hernandez held the lead. Lodi’s Nate Wait drove past Teves for third then turned his sights on Sarale. Wait passed Sarale and ran down a multiple car length lead that Hernandez had accumulated. Hernandez led Wait closely across the line in a narrow finish. Sarale held off Teves for third while Santa Cruz’ Logan Mitchell drove the Pepper Supply Co. No. 96x to finish fifth.

Western Midget Racing returns to Arizona at Glendale’s Adobe Mountain Speedway on September 17th!
